Starbucks Morning: Preventing Elder Financial Exploitation

About

Seniors lose an estimated $36.48 billion per year to financial abuse, and Pennsylvania faces a greater challenge than most states because it has a rapidly aging population. In addition, recent statistics show that financial exploitation is now the number one reported abuse reported to the PA Department of Aging. This presentation will help professionals, such as Realtors who work with senior citizens and their families, learn how to recognize and report suspected elder financial exploitation. Learning objectives:

  1. Describe the issue of elder financial exploitation
  2. List key factors that increase an older person’s vulnerability to elder investment fraud and financial exploitation
  3. Describe common financial exploitation schemes and practices
  4. Describe when to and where to refer at risk seniors
